HISTORY/LOCATION OF
THE LIONS CLUB OF BRISBANE COORPAROO INC.
The Lions club of Brisbane
Coorparoo Inc began with its formation by the Lions Club of Sunnybank Mt Gravatt
in March of 1966 in the then Lions District of 201 A. The first president was
the manager of the local branch of the Commercial Bank of Australia – the late
Mr Owen Reynolds. The particular suburbs of Brisbane that the club currently
serves are Coorparoo, Norman Park, East Brisbane, Buranda, Woolloongabba, Stones
Cnr, Greenslopes and parts of Holland Park, Whites Hill and Camp Hill.
The club still has three
members who joined Lions on the occasion of its formation and charter, and
presently has a membership of 21 Lions of both sexes. The club meets on the
second and fourth Monday of each month for dinner at the Coorparoo RSL Club, 45
Holdsworth St., Coorparoo. Fellowship begins at 6.15pm with dinner starting at
6.45pm.
The members of the club
have been actively involved in many Lions projects - providing a member of the
original committee of the Lions Medical Research foundation at the Princess
Alexandra Hospital over 35 years ago, supporting the Lions Youth of the Year
Quest, and sponsoring a National winner in this quest, sponsoring Youth exchange
visits to overseas countries and hosting visitors from various countries
throughout the world, financial support for Childrens Mobility foundation,
Australian Lions Drug. Awareness Foundation, Prostate Cancer Awareness
foundation and many many other projects.
We also have a motto of
Lions caring for people, and we endeavour, within the best of our ability, to
serve those in our local community who need our help. This includes hampers for
the needy, and bus trips for the elderly, together with support for every
primary and secondary education unit within our area.
Our fund-raising is done
through our car parking project on game days at the AFL home matches held at the
“Gabba” where we park vehicles in business
premises who lend their support to Lions International by donating their
premises for our use. We also have an annual Raffle of a wheelbarrow full of
Xmas goodies and we sell Christmas Cakes and Lion mints.
Lions of Coorparoo also
know how to have fun and we do this with various social functions with our
partners and guests.
We welcome visitors to our
dinners, please give our Secretary a call.
IN APPRECIATION

In
recognition of the contribution of the Lions Clubs of Turkey, especially Lion
Dr. Enzar Tore, in providing free web page hosting for Lions Clubs everywhere,
the Lions Club of BRISBANE COORPAROO OF QUEENSLAND, MD 201/Q1. proudly displays the flag of
Turkey on our site.
Click on the flag to go to the web site of Lion Dr. Enzar's home club - the
Lions Club of Canakkale.
As an extension to the
Turkish Lions' contribution, the Brisbane Ekibin Lions Club of MD 201 Q1
(Australia) offer assistance to Lions Clubs who want to take advantage of the
Turkish Lions offer, but are not familiar with web publishing. They've already
set up many sites for Lions Clubs world-wide, using Lionwap.
If your club wants to be on the internet, and would like some help, leave a
message in the Ekibin Guest Book by clicking on the image above. This is a FREE
SERVICE, so you don't spend a cent for their work. As Lionwap is also FREE, this
means you get a web site that you NEVER have to pay for. - Is that a deal or
what?
All your Club has to do it have some-one update and maintain your page, which
needs not take more than a few minutes each month. The Ekibin Lions will even
give you some tips on that!
